Tax Team Move to US Law Firm, Hiscock & Barclay
Hiscock & Barclay, LLP announces that a nationally-recognized tax, corporate and estate planning group of six lawyers, led by Gerald F. Stack, has joined Hiscock & Barclay, LLP. The group includes lawyers holding advance L.L.M. degrees in taxation and dual licenses in law and certified public accounting and consists of three partners and three associates. The new lawyers, along with several other recent lateral acquisitions, brings the firm to 170-attorneys with regional offices in Albany, Buffalo, New York, Rochester and Syracuse. The group also includes additional expertise in the areas of Corporate Law, Financial Institutions & Lending, and Real Estate law. Formerly of the Syracuse law firm of Hancock & Estabrook, LLP, this group brings with them an established portfolio of national, regional, and small business clients, ranging from large commercial real estate developers and publicly-held multinational corporations to high-net worth individuals.
The new lawyers include the following:
Gerald F. Stack, Partner, a preeminent lawyer in the area of tax-driven business transactions and individual wealth and estate planning. He possesses more than 25 years of experience counseling clients on such matters as advanced like-kind exchanges, reorganizations, partnership tax issues, and multi-state commercial real estate transactions with significant tax and financial implications. Stack is a frequent lecturer on various tax matters and teaches Partnership Taxation and Tax Practice and Procedure as an Adjunct Professor at Syracuse University. Stack is Co-chair of the Firm’s Tax Practice Group.
James J. Canfield, Partner, focuses on corporate, banking and finance and creditors’ rights law and handles a wide array of transactional matters. He has extensive experience in the areas of business formation, mergers and acquisitions, multi-state commercial real estate transactions, and various types of commercial financing transactions.
Jeffrey B. Andrus, Partner, specializes in corporate transactions, business and tax valuation, business succession planning, tax planning, including complex estate planning, and complex property tax litigation.
Meghan M. Mahaney, Associate, is in the process of earning her L.L.M. in Taxation from the University of Florida, and focuses on the areas of tax-driven business transactions, partnership tax issues, and individual wealth and tax estate planning.
Brent J. Horton, Associate, focuses primarily on general business and corporate matters, including business formation, mergers and acquisitions, and contracting.
Eileen A. Casey, Associate, focuses on general business counseling, tax planning for individuals and small businesses, estate planning and related matters.
