Mike Dorula Joins Cherry, Bekaert & Holland as Real Estate, Hospitality and Construction Group Tax Partner
Cherry, Bekaert & Holland, L.L.P, one of the largest regional public accounting firms headquartered in the Southeast, has announced the addition of Mike Dorula as a Tax Partner in the Firm’s Real Estate and Construction Group.
Dorula is a Certified Public Accountant with more than 20 years of progressive experience serving the tax needs of real estate, hospitality and construction companies. Based in the Firm’s Northern Virginia/Greater Washington practice, he focuses his practice by providing tax, process and technology strategies to ensure regulatory compliance and maximize tax savings opportunities for the Firm’s real estate and construction clients. Dorula has extensive tax planning experience assisting clients with tax technical matters; partnerships and real estate investment trust (REIT) issues; and the strategic structuring of transactions, acquisitions and refinancings.
A former tax executive for the hospitality industry, Dorula has provided tax solutions to real estate and construction clients over the course of his career. Through his work with Fortune 500 companies and Big 4 CPA firms, he has developed a successful ‘tax value center’ approach which manages the effective tax rate and improves operational efficiencies, thereby increasing cash flow and enhancing productivity.
Prior to joining CB&H, Dorula was a tax principal with Ernst & Young for eight years, where he established the firm’s Mid-Atlantic real estate and tax outsourcing operations. Dorula also previously served as a tax director with the Marriott Corporation and Host Hotels & Resorts where he was responsible for corporate and partnership tax department operations, and recently was the vice president of owner reporting with Sunrise Senior Living. Dorula received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from West Virginia University. He has been active in his community as a former chairperson of Special Olympics, as a baseball coach and raising guide dogs for Guiding Eyes for the Blind.
