Yet another Property Tax Specialist moves from Deloitte to Burr Wolff
Burr Wolff, L.P., a nationwide, full-service provider of state and local tax reduction solutions, has announced that it has appointed Keith Schuster as the Company’s new vice president of product management, effective immediately. Schuster will be responsible for delivering on the Company’s commitment to deliver a high-performance, multi-client BPO/Compliance platform designed to provide clients with greater control over and improved transparency into their property tax portfolios.
“We are very pleased to welcome Keith to our property tax management team,” said Burr Wolff president and CEO Paul Bourke. “His experience with multi-platform e-commerce and property tax compliance technology solutions will bolster our already formidable resources in that area. Keith is also an exceptional relationship builder and motivator, which is key to our corporate emphasis on providing superior customer service to all of our clients.”
Prior to joining Burr Wolff, Schuster was a senior manager with Deloitte Tax LLP, where he led a group of compliance professionals that handled in excess of 14,000 personal property tax returns. He was recognized for his outstanding contributions to Deloitte’s national compliance oversight committee, and led the firm’s Sarbanes-Oxley 404 readiness projects in the Southeast division. Overall, Schuster brings more than 16 years of experience in property tax compliance, including three years running his own firm, Schuster & Company LLC, following successful stints at KPMG and other national firms.
“I am very excited to be joining the outstanding team at Burr Wolff,” said Schuster. “Their PTS Corporate software platform already sets the standard in the industry, and I believe I have the expertise and background to help them maximize its value to current and prospective clients. And since there’s always room for improvement, I look forward to playing an important role in future upgrades to the technology.”
Schuster earned his bachelor of arts degree in liberal arts and economics from Villanova University in 1989. He is a member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation. He and his wife, Shirley, have two sons: Conner, 11; and Mason, 9.
Schuster’s appointment marks the fourth key executive from Deloitte & Touche to join Burr Wolff’s team in 2006. Kerry Comstock, the firm’s vice president of property tax compliance operations, served as Mid-America region personal property practice leader for Deloitte & Touche since 2000. Chief Marketing Officer John Dyslin was national director of business development for Deloitte’s property tax services group from 1998 to 2006. And Catherine Courteau, a senior account executive, was previously a senior consultant in the firm’s property tax services group.
“It’s no surprise that we are attracting top-notch talent from some of America’s largest accounting firms,” explained Bourke. “The Big 4 are limited in the scope of services they can provide to their property tax compliance clients, and their size often makes it difficult for them to provide the personalized service today’s tax departments demand. We continue to believe that our singular dedication to state and local tax compliance, along with our commitment to providing the best customer service in the industry, give us a distinct competitive advantage in the industry that no other firm can match.”
Burr Wolff’s comprehensive BPO service has enabled many of America’s leading corporations to outsource some or all of their state and local tax processes, moving these complex, highly repetitive and non-strategic functions to a team of seasoned tax experts. As a result, Burr Wolff’s customers are able to reduce their tax costs and mitigate their risks while improving their control over the entire tax process. This type of comprehensive outsourcing relationship is rapidly becoming a competitive advantage for companies seeking best-in-class alternatives to non-core functions.
