PwC names John Petrella Managing Director in Washington National Tax Services Practice
PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP has announced that John Petrella Jr. has joined the firm as a managing director in the Washington National Tax Service’s (WNTS) IRS Service Team. In his new role Mr. Petrella will work with the Internal Revenue Services (IRS) and be a national resource in federal income tax compliance and controversy matters.

Prior to joining PwC, Petrella worked at the IRS for over 35 years and was a key contributor to the IRS reorganization and modernization effort within the large, medium and small businesses (LMSB) division. He was also the Strategic Initiative Owner for LMSB Re-engineering and
Issues Management/Resolution Strategy, including the Compliance Assurance Program (CAP) and Industry Issue Focus. Mr. Petrella was responsible for a number of IRS tax shelter initiatives and IRS-wide Tax Shelter Promoter Program.
During his years at the IRS, Petrella received the IRS Deputy Commissioner’s Award for Executive Oversight of Abusive Tax Shelter Initiative and the LMSB Commissioner’s Award for Leadership and Innovation.
Mr. Petrella earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Rhode Island; an MBA from Providence College and a Master of Science of Taxation (MST) from Bryant College. He was an associate professor at Bryant College for the MST Program and continues to be involved in numerous public speaking engagements on technical issues and tax administration.
