Tax Court of Canada Judicial Appointments Announced
The Honourable Vic Toews Q.C., Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, yesterday announced the following appointments: The Honourable Eugene Rossiter, a partner with the firm Stewart McKelvey Stirling Scales in Charlottetown is appointed a judge of the Tax Court of Canada. He replaces Mr. Justice T.E. Margeson, who elected to become a supernumerary judge.
Mr. Justice Eugene Rossiter received a Bachelor of Laws in 1978 from Dalhousie University and a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1974 from St. Francis Xavier University and was admitted to the Bar of Prince Edward Island in 1978. Since 1979, he has practised with Stewart McKelvey Stirling Scales (formerly Scales Jenkins McQuaid). Appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1991, Mr. Justice Rossiter’s practice expertise is in the area of civil litigation. He was a President of the Prince Edward Island Law Society and a member of the Prince Edward Island Supreme Court Rules Committee. Mr. Justice Rossiter is a Director of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, a Governor of the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council and a Governor of the Prince Edward Island Junior Achievement.
The Honourable Wyman W. Webb, a partner with the firm Patterson Law in Halifax is appointed a judge of the Tax Court of Canada. He replaces Madam Justice L. Lamarre Proulx, who elected to become a supernumerary judge.
Mr. Justice Wyman W. Webb received both a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Laws in 1982 from Dalhousie University and a Bachelor of Science in 1978 from Mount Allison University. His academic awards include the Richard DeBoo Limited Prize in Taxation and a Dalhousie Graduate Fellowship. Mr. Justice Webb was admitted to the Bar of Nova Scotia in 1982 and practised with Patterson Law and its predecessor firms. His practice expertise is in national tax law, commercial law and tax litigation. Mr. Justice Webb is a former Governor of the Canadian Tax Foundation and a lecturer of tax law at Dalhousie Law School.
These appointments are effective immediately.
