Leading business and financial advisers Grant Thornton announce further key appointments to their International Tax team. Heather Self joins the firm as an International Tax Partner, Dana Ward has joined as a Financial Services Tax Partner and David Hill as a Client Service Director. Their appointments mark a significant step towards growing the firm’s presence in the large corporate tax arena, particularly in the fields of UK and international corporate tax and asset management.

Heather joins Grant Thornton from Scottish Power plc where she was Group Tax Director from 2002. She was responsible for all tax matters at this FTSE 100 quoted group and was recently involved in the disposal of the group’s US regulated business. Prior to this Heather was an International Tax Partner at Ernst & Young.

Dana, who has previously worked at two of the Big Four firms, has invaluable experience in dealing with tax issues for a broad range of collective investment schemes and has advised asset management houses on the European Savings Directive, transfer pricing issues and the establishment of hedge funds. David (pictured) is a corporate tax adviser specialising in the taxation of loan relationships, derivatives and foreign exchange, and is based in Grant Thornton’s Edinburgh office.

Both Heather and Dana are heavily involved with the tax community. Dana frequently presents at tax conferences in London and Ireland and writes for the financial press in the area of asset management. She has been a member of the Alternative Investment Management Association’s tax committee in 2005 and 2006. Heather is a member of the CBI Tax Committee, the IFS Tax Law Review Committee and the Editorial Board of the Tax Journal.

Commenting on the expansion of the group Joy Svasti-Salee, Head of International Tax at Grant Thornton, said, “I am delighted to welcome the three new joiners to the team. Dana’s wealth of experience in tax services to the financial sector enhances our financial services offering and is the latest investment in our growing sector expertise. Heather and David’s appointments secure Grant Thornton’s position as one of the most knowledgeable groups in the international tax sector and bring a rare combination of technical expertise and commercial acumen to the group.”

Rob Withecombe, Head of Tax at Grant Thornton said, “Our International Tax team has grown considerably over the past few years and comprises a core group of dedicated and experienced international tax professionals, the majority of whom are based in London. We now offer the market one of the most knowledgeable international and treasury tax groups, and present a real alternative to the Big Four.”
