There are 3 new tax partners at Freshfields, with effect from 1 May 2007. They are:
Helen Buchanan, London
Ulf Johannemann, Frankfurt
Ulf Johannemann has been a principal associate of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer since May 2006. He speaks English and German.
Norbert Schneider, Cologne
Norbert Schneider has been a principal associate of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer since May 2006. He is a member of ITG – the international tax practice group and specialises in national and international tax law, in particular the structuring, restructuring and financing of national and international mergers and acquisitions.
Norbert was born in 1967. After leaving his job as graduated finance manager (Diplom-Finanzwirt (FH)) in North-Rhine Westphalia’s Tax Administration (nordrhein-westfalische Finanzverwaltung), he studied law at the University of Cologne. Following his first state exam in law, he was an assistant lecturer in the tax law department at the Ruhr-University Bochum for two and a half years, where he completed a doctor of laws degree (Dr iur). He is also a qualified tax adviser.
Norbert is the author of a number of tax law publications, in particular with regard to taxation of partnerships and the so-called special business property of its partners (ia his doctoral thesis Sonderbetriebsvermogen – Rechtsgrundlage und Umfang, published in 2000, and the section on special business property in the leading German commentary on income tax law Herrmann/Heuer/Raupach.
Norbert joined the firm in 2001 and speaks German, English and French.
