In Ernst Young, Grant Thornton, national tax

Walter Goldberg has joined Grant Thornton LLP’s National Tax Office in Washington, DC, as an executive director and the IRS Practice and Procedure technical practice leader.

Goldberg, who has worked in public accounting since 1985, spent the last 13 years as an executive director in Ernst & Young’s National Tax Department. His practice concentrates on all aspects of federal tax controversy, including representing clients who have examination, appeals, collection and penalty issues. He also focuses on IRS National Office matters, including securing letter rulings, 9100 relief and other client-related guidance.

Prior to entering public accounting, Goldberg was an attorney in the IRS’s National Office of Chief Counsel, where he handled consolidated return and exempt organization issues.

Goldberg received his Master of Law in taxation from Boston University and his Juris Doctorate from New England School of Law. He is a member of both the New York and Massachusetts Bars.

“Walter’s background with other national tax offices and the IRS will be invaluable in providing the Grant Thornton Experience to our clients with regard to IRS matters,” said Dean Jorgensen, Grant Thornton’s National Tax Office managing partner.
