Dewey Ballantine Hires Todd McArthur from KPMG
Dewey Ballantine LLP hasannounced that Todd McArthur has joined the firm’s Tax Department as a partner resident in the Washington, D.C. office. Mr. McArthur joins the firm from the tax practice of KPMG LLP where he was a principal. He has more than 15 years of experience advising clients on transactional tax and tax controversy matters. Prior to joining KPMG in 2002, he was a partner at King & Spalding.
Gordon E. Warnke, co-chair of the Management Committee, and head of its 90-lawyer tax practice, said of the news: “Todd’s arrival and experience dovetails well with the rapid expansion of our private equity practice. Our clients will benefit from the practical approach that Todd brings as both a qualified lawyer and a former principal in a Big 4 firm.”
Mr. McArthur received a B.S. in Commerce from the University of Virginia in 1985. He graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1990, where he was the managing editor of the Virginia Tax Review. Mr. McArthur is the author of Partnership Transactions – Section 751 Property, a Bureau of National Affairs (BNA) Portfolio, one of the more complicated partnership tax provisions of the Internal Revenue Code.

– Mr. McArthur is the 18th lateral partner to join Dewey Ballantine over the last three months.
– On May 30, Dewey Ballantine announced the opening of a new office in Charlotte, North Carolina to be founded by structured finance partners Jamie Bryant and Todd Stillerman.
– Mr. McArthur joins former KPMG tax alum Abraham ‘Hap’ Shashy, Jr. (also a member of the firm’s Management Committee), who came to Dewey Ballantine’s Washington, D.C. office as a partner in January 2006. Mr. Shashy served as Chief Counsel of the Internal Revenue Service from February 1990 to January 1993. Other Washington, D.C. tax partners include Devon Bodoh, Anna-Liza Harris, Andrew Kentz, Felix Laughlin, Joseph Pari and John Salmon (also a member of the firm’s Executive Committee).
– The Firm’s European tax practice was reently shortlisted for the 2007 ‘US tax law firm of the year’ award conferred by the International Tax Review.
