John Viterisi named VP Tax at Scripps

John E. Viterisi, who has more than 20 years experience in tax planning and related financial management disciplines, has been named a vice president of The E. W. Scripps Company.

As vice president, tax, Viterisi will be responsible for managing and directing the company’s tax functions, including strategic tax planning, tax reporting and disclosure, tax compliance and management of all of the company’s tax-related activities and obligations.

Viterisi, 48, comes to Scripps from Cintas Corporation, where he has served as director of tax since 2004. At Cintas he was responsible for all of the company’s U.S. and international tax planning, strategy and policies. Based in Cincinnati, Cintas is a publicly held service company that, among other things, designs and manufactures corporate uniform identity programs.

“John brings a high level of expertise to the Scripps management team,” said Joseph G. NeCastro, executive vice president and chief financial officer for Scripps. “As our company has grown both domestically and abroad, it’s become increasingly important to enhance our tax management capabilities. John’s solid background as a tax professional will strengthen our financial management team at Scripps.”

Before joining Cintas, Viterisi served for four years in a similar role for Stryker Corporation in Kalamazoo, Mich. At Stryker, an international medical device manufacturer, he served as senior tax manager with direct responsibility for the global effective tax rate and worldwide tax cash flow management.

His experience also includes eight years as a tax accountant and tax manager for Arthur Andersen LLP.

Viterisi is a graduate of Indiana University in Bloomington, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in economics in 1984 and a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1993.
