Miguel Valdes Joins Reznick Group as Principal and Co-Leader of International Tax Practice
Reznick Group Managing Principal Kenneth E. Baggett recently announced that Miguel ‘Mike’ Valdes has joined the firm’s National Tax Practice to co-lead the burgeoning international tax practice with Principal Rob Jennings effective immediately. With more than 25 years of international tax consulting experience, Valdes specializes in Latin American and Caribbean tax matters with special emphasis on Brazilian transactions. An attorney and certified public accountant, Valdes will be based out of the firm’s Tysons Corner, Virginia and Chicago, Illinois offices, respectively.
“With his extensive knowledge Valdes brings significant skills advising on international tax matters to Reznick Group that will allow us to continue providing our clients the highest caliber of experience and specialization,” said Reznick Group Managing Principal Kenneth E. Baggett.
Rob Jennings, co-leader of the firm’s international tax services practice, said, “The addition of Valdes to Reznick Group is a significant talent acquisition which will enable us to build our international tax practice more rapidly than we would without his expertise.”
Valdes and Jennings will be charged with making Reznick Group’s International Tax Practice the dominant international tax service provider to middle-market multinational enterprises through the firm’s independent network of preeminent boutique tax firms in 60 plus countries around the world.
“This new practice will make Reznick Group unique among non-Big Four accounting firms, as many have single member international tax services practices with few, if any, non-US firms with extensive cross-border international tax expertise,” added Jennings.
Valdes came to Reznick Group from the law firm Valdes, Machado & Associates in Chicago and Machado Associados in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Prior to the law firm, Valdes served as National Director of the Latin American Business Center where he coordinated Ernst & Young’s expansive Latin American resources for the foreign desk network. He also previously worked for a major law firm where he specialized in Latin American tax planning. In addition, as Director of Taxes for a multinational pharmaceutical company, Valdes spearheaded projects such as the company’s transfer pricing litigation, §936 operations in Puerto Rico and investments in Latin America.
“I am extremely excited to join such a dynamic firm where I will be able to continue advising clients on US and non-US tax and legal matters,” said Valdes. “I’m looking forward to working with Rob Jennings to put Reznick Group’s international tax practice on the map.”
Valdes is a frequent speaker at the American Conference Institute, Tax Executive Institute and other organizations. He is a member of the Illinois CPA Society, American Institute of CPAs, the American Bar Association, Florida Bar Association and many other professional organizations. He earned his Master of Science and Juris Doctor from DePaul University and DePaul University Law School, respectively; and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Loyola University.
