Paul Farmer joins Dorsey’s Tax Litigation team from European Commission
International law firm Dorsey & Whitney today announced that Paul Farmer, the 2006 Lexis Nexis “UK Tax Lawyer of the Year” has joined its London office.
Paul joined Dorsey from the European Commission, where he was Head of Analysis and Co-ordination of Tax Policies. Before working with the Commission, he was a leading barrister at Pump Court Tax Chambers.
Paul’s recognition as the 2006 “UK Tax Lawyer of the Year” in the Lexis Nexis Butterworths Taxation Awards was partly in recognition of his work with Dorsey’s tax litigators on both the Loss Relief and CFC Group Litigation Order litigation. Paul also has extensive experience of VAT matters, including the landmark Kretztechnik case as well as a broader background in EU law matters through his work as a lawyer at the European Court.
“We are delighted that Paul has joined us,” commented London Partner-in-Charge Paul Klaas. “His background and experience are a perfect fit with our world-class tax practice.”
Dorsey’s tax litigation practice, led by Simon Whitehead, is one of the most high profile contentious tax teams in the UK, advising on highly significant, genuinely ground breaking and cutting edge disputes, such as Marks & Spencer and the ACT Group Litigation Orders. These landmark matters have the potential to change UK legislation and have direct implications for a range of sectors.
The Dorsey tax practice has received a number of significant honours in the last 18 months:
