Greenberg Traurig Expands Miami Office with Addition of Tax Lawyer Justin Mead
The International law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP has announced that Justin B. Mead has joined its Miami office as a shareholder in the Tax Practice Group. Prior to joining Greenberg Traurig, Mead was a partner with McDermott Will & Emery LLP.
Mead focuses his practice on the federal income tax issues faced by large corporations and the joint ventures entered into among these corporations, with an emphasis on the energy industry. These issues typically revolve around restructuring the business of the corporations and their joint ventures in the most tax-efficient manner, which include planning and implementing reorganizations, acquisitions and dispositions, including spinoffs, as well as developing entrance and exit strategies for the joint ventures. The implementation of this kind of restructuring involves the application of the tax rules associated with corporations, consolidated returns, and partnerships (including limited liability companies), as well as the rules that affect the owners of these entities. His practice also involves the structuring and implementation of alternative energy projects such as wind, solar, biomass, and geothermal, as well as hedge and private equity funds.
Mead is a former member of the federal energy tax practice at an international accounting firm, where he concentrated on the unique federal income tax issues faced by energy corporations, as well as the general federal income tax issues that these corporations face during restructurings.
With more than 125 attorneys located throughout the firm, Greenberg Traurig ranks as one of the largest tax practices in the world by Tax Business. The firm’s broad scope of tax services, include tax planning in connection with both domestic and international mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures; transfer pricing; global business structures; capital markets; real estate investment/financing; derivatives and financial instruments; and dispute resolution and litigation.
Mead holds a J.D. and LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Florida College of Law, an M.B.A. from the University of Florida, and a B.S.E. in Electrical Engineering from Duke University.
