EY Newcastle hires VAT specialist Tom Stokoe

VAT specialist Tom Stokoe has been recruited by Ernst & Young in Newcastle.

Tom joins Ernst & Young’s VAT advisory team as a senior manager, after spending 20 years at another ‘Big 4’ firm.

He worked at HM Revenue & Customs from the introduction of VAT in 1973 to 1987 and wrote the well-known feature ‘VAT Facts’ in the Newcastle Journal, whilst he headed PwC’s Newcastle VAT practice.

Head of VAT, Director Stewart Mathieson said: “Tom is a welcomed addition. We are now one of the largest Big 4 VAT teams in Newcastle with an impressive 65 years of VAT experience between us.”

Tom’s new role involves providing VAT-related advice to clients, based on a wealth of experience of VAT issues in areas including: the public sector, global household goods manufacturing, distribution and leisure.

Born and raised in Hartlepool, Tom obtained a degree from the Open University in 1985. He lives with his wife in Hexham and has two grown-up children.
