WTAS hires Edward Culhane and Scott Thomas from UHY
Former UHY Managing Directors, Edward Culhane and Scott Thomas, recently joined the Boston office of WTAS LLC. Culhane, a former Co-Director for UHY Advisors’ Northeast Tax Practice, will serve as a Managing Director for WTAS’ Corporate Tax practice. Thomas, a former Managing Director for UHY Advisors’ State and Local Tax Practice, joins WTAS as a Managing Director in the State and Local Tax practice.
Culhane brings nearly twenty years of experience to WTAS in providing tax services to high technology companies, growth and venture backed companies, and entrepreneurs. Prior to joining WTAS, Culhane also served as the Partner In Charge of UHY’s Massachusetts Tax Department, and worked as a Senior Tax Manager and High Technology Group Leader at Arthur Andersen.
“Ed’s expertise is a great resource for our high tech clients with respect to stock option planning, start-up, IPO, merger and exit strategies,” said Joe Comeau, the firm’s Managing Director for the Boston office.
“Ed’s move to our firm was a natural transition. He has worked with professionals from our Boston office on selected engagements in the past, and a number of our Managing Directors are familiar with the quality of his work. He adds capability and depth to our Corporate Tax team and our clients will benefit from his knowledge and experience,” commented WTAS
CEO, Mark Vorsatz.
Thomas brings twenty years of experience to WTAS in representing clients in multistate tax services including state tax controversies, multistate income tax planning and voluntary disclosure. Prior to joining WTAS, Thomas acted as UHY’s Regional Director of Tax for New England, and served as a partner in the Total State Tax Solutions group at Deloitte &
Touche.
“Scott brings additional expertise to the State and Local Tax practice,” said Comeau, “and helps us round out our business entity taxation practice in Boston and along the East Coast.”
“I’m proud to be joining such a strong team in Boston,” said Thomas. “The backgrounds and experience of the new and existing staff in this office are truly complementary and will create some powerful synergies that benefit our clients.”
Culhane and Thomas are two of eleven new Managing Directors at WTAS within the last nine months and their arrival is representative of the firm’s 300% growth over the past six years.
