 In KPMG

The tax and people services practice at KPMG in the UK has been restructured to enhance existing delivery capability to its client base by streamlining management reporting lines thereby freeing up senior partner time to focus on helping their clients through the current challenging financial conditions.

At the very top, the tax and people services leadership remains unchanged with the UK practice still headed by Sue Bonney (who is also head of tax for KPMG Europe LLP and head of KPMG’s EMA tax group) and Jeremy Brittain, Chief Operating Officer.

Within Tax and People Services, the Corporate Tax practice is to be divided into two core divisions: Business Tax Services, led by Caitriona Hunt, and International Tax Services, led by Simon Palmer. Caitriona and Simon are to be joint heads of Corporate Tax.

Sue Bonney, head of tax at KPMG in the UK, said: “We started our new financial year on 1st October facing extraordinary times in terms of the external business environment. Responding to the challenges and opportunities we now face means bringing together our most experienced partners to spend more time out in the market with our clients, helping them to get through the current turmoil.

“By restructuring the practice, we are bringing together our partners around particular areas of market focus to deliver on their clients’ needs. The new structure also streamlines a large part of our administrative process and we anticipate that this will make us operate more efficiently.”

Composition of Business Tax Services and International Tax Services

Business Tax Services comprises Indirect Tax, Corporate Tax Compliance and Tax Management Services.

Caitriona Hunt, head of business tax services at KPMG in the UK, said: “As tax and regulatory authorities grow more sophisticated, transparency and robustness of controls and processes within all large organisations fall more under the spotlight. The creation of our business tax services division, bringing together tax compliance, tax technology and tax management services under one umbrella allows us to focus on the breadth of challenges facing our clients in this area.”

International Tax Services, comprises Transfer Pricing, Supply Chain Management, International Corporate Tax and M&A tax.

Simon Palmer, head of International Tax Services at KPMG in the UK commented: “The evidence is all around that the business world has gone global. We need to continually invest in our international tax business to ensure it is leading edge in the market and a rewarding place to work. The creation of ITS is a key step along this path.”
