Jeffrey G. Davis Joins Mayer Brown’s Tax Transactions Practice from McKee Nelson

Mayer Brown LLP, a leading global law firm, announced yesterday that Jeffrey G. Davis, 40, has joined the firm’s Washington, DC office as a partner in the Tax Transactions practice.

“Mayer Brown has one of the leading tax practices in the country,” said Mr. Davis. “The depth and breadth of the group, combined with the firm’s impressive energy, project finance and environmental groups, made Mayer Brown the ideal choice for me to expand my practice.”

Mr. Davis is a tax lawyer who concentrates in tax credit transactions. In particular, he structures and negotiates transactions involving investments in projects that are eligible for certain tax credits and that generally are owned through partnerships and limited liability companies. He is a leading authority on the financing of tax credit-eligible renewable energy projects. He has significant experience with production tax credits for energy produced from wind, geothermal and biomass resources under Internal Revenue Code section 45, investment tax credits for solar energy property under Internal Revenue Code section 48, and new markets tax credits under Internal Revenue Code section 45D. In addition, he represents clients in matters before the Department of Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service and assists with applications for private letter rulings and requests for published guidance.

Prior to joining Mayer Brown, Mr. Davis was a partner at McKee Nelson LLP, where he advised numerous equity investors, developers, and utilities in a multitude of various energy-related transactions, including more than 50 wind farms that collectively produce over 7,000 MW of electricity, and represented investors in more than $250 million of new markets tax credit investments. He also advised an industry trade association in connection with the drafting of section 45B (industrial gasification projects).

Mr. Davis received an LL.M. in Taxation with distinction from Georgetown University Law Center, where he was awarded the Thomas Bradbury Chetwood, S.J. Prize.. He received his J.D. summa cum laude from Pepperdine University School of Law, where he served as articles editor of the Pepperdine Law Review, and he received a B.S. from Lipscomb University, graduating summa cum laude. In addition, Mr. Davis has served as an adjunct professor in the graduate tax program at Georgetown University Law Center.
