KPMG UK hires three senior tax professionals from UBS, Babcock & Brown and Nabarros
Caitriona Hunt, joint head of corporate tax and head of the business services tax practice at KPMG in the UK, said: “These are important, strategic hires to our business. Our practice is enjoying strong growth in key areas and these appointments will significantly enhance our capabilities in these parts of the tax practice.”
Angus Wilson, Tax Partner, Infrastructure Tax Group
Angus Wilson joins as a tax partner in the Infrastructure Tax Group at KPMG in the UK, where his focus will be on infrastructure funds.
In KPMG’s view, good opportunities continue to exist both in the UK and overseas. Historic underinvestment by governments in most developed countries means there is a growing need for KPMG advisory services to help clients originate and develop opportunities notwithstanding the current credit environment. Angus Wilson’s appointment enables KPMG to significantly enhance the tax and broader advisory team’s capabilities.
Angus was European Head of Tax and acting European CFO at Australian Babcock and Brown. Prior to joining Babcock and Brown in 2005, Angus worked with Big Four tax practices in Sydney, Australia.
Angus brings skills and client networks which complement those of the existing team at KPMG. He has extensive contacts with the European Australian funds markets in particular and a strong track record across the global market as a whole.
Darren Mellor-Clark, Associate Partner, Indirect Tax
Darren is an experienced indirect tax professional with particular specialism in the financial services arena. He was the Global Lead for VAT and Sales Taxes at UBS and joins KPMG’s already strong financial services practice as an Associate Partner.
Whilst in industry Darren chaired the VAT committee of the London Investment Banking Association and was a member of the VAT committees of the Investment Management Association, the British Banking Association and the Association of Foreign Banks. Darren brings considerable industry experience with him and is well respected by his peers.
KPMG sees VAT as becoming even more important for its Financial Services clients. Businesses will need specialist help to adapt their business and operating models as they react to the extraordinary circumstances brought about by a combination of the credit crisis and a number of major VAT developments in the pipeline (such as the VAT package, penalty regime and the new regulatory regime).
Lydia Simpson, Senior Manager, Tax Legal Services practice
Lydia Simpson, an experienced tax lawyer, joins KPMG’s tax legal services practice as a Senior Manager from Nabarro LLP.
Lydia’s primary specialism is property-based taxation, but she also has considerable general corporate tax experience and advises on a wide range of direct and indirect tax issues. Lydia has been involved in numerous major, national and international transactions. She also has extensive experience in tax investigations and tax disputes.
KPMG sees the development of its Tax Legal Services practice as a significant growth opportunity. The team already has a market leading reputation in indirect tax litigation and associated legal issues. Lydia’s arrival adds strength to the direct tax side of the Tax Legal Services Team. [/private]
