Philip Haleen joins Bryan Cave in Hamburg

[private]The international law firm Bryan Cave LLP has announced that on Aug. 1, Philip Haleen and Iliana Haleen will join the firm’s Hamburg office as of counsel and counsel, respectively.

Philip will practice with the Franchise & Distribution Law, Private Client and Tax Advice and Controversy Client Service Groups. Iliana will practice with the Intellectual Property (IP) Client Service Group, and she will establish and lead a German IP practice for Bryan Cave.

Bryan Cave’s Hamburg office was established in 2007 and is led by Managing Partner Dr. Michael Leue. The office initially focused on commercial transactions, corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions, and now is expanding to include additional practice areas.

Philip concentrates on both international tax matters as well as franchise and distribution law. He also has experience with European treaty issues concerning distribution from an antitrust perspective. Additionally, Philip advises clients on cross-border transactions, including mergers and acquisitions. Philip originally built a traditional corporate and international tax practice, but it has evolved since he moved to Germany from the U.S. in 1982. Philip has been involved in establishing distribution systems, including franchise operations in Europe. He also has handled numerous product labeling issues and has participated in groups to formulate European Union (E.U.) safety standards and regulations.

Philip received his J.D. in 1974 from the University of Minnesota Law School and his B.A. in 1971 from Stanford University.

Iliana has specialized in IP protection for more than 20 years. Her practice focuses on IP matters, with an emphasis on international trademark law and the management of international trademark portfolios. She represents many U.S. and European companies in IP matters in Germany and the E.U. She has built an international practice, which includes advising clients on their rights as IP holders under numerous international treaties. Iliana has extensive experience in the coordination of multinational IP cases with multilingual teams.

Iliana received her law degree in 1971 from Sofia University Faculty of Law.
