New Head of Tax at Baker Hostetler
Baker & Hostetler LLP have announced that[private] Paul Schmidt has been appointed firmwide Chair of Baker Hostetler’s Tax Group. Schmidt succeeds Jeffrey Paravano, who was recently named Managing Partner of the firm’s Washington, D.C., office.
Schmidt is former legislation counsel to the Joint Committee on Taxation and has served as the firmwide practice team leader for the firm’s International Tax Practice Team and as Coordinator of the Tax Group for the Washington, D.C., office. Schmidt will continue his practice which includes representation of several FORTUNE 500 corporate clients in industrial, energy, and commodities businesses, as well as financial institutions in connection with international tax issues.
In his new role, Schmidt will oversee the client service, strategic planning, quality assurance, growth and development of the nearly 80-attorney group, as well as oversee the Group’s Coordinators in all 11 offices. Among the largest law firm tax practices in the United States, Baker Hostetler’s Tax Group includes attorneys who have served in senior positions at the Department of Treasury, the IRS, the Department of Justice, the Joint Committee on Taxation and in various other positions in the Executive Branch and on Capitol Hill.
