Switzerland appoints diplomat as new Secretary of State for Tax

[private]Switzerland has appointed Mr Ambuehl as the new state secretary for tax issues.

Mt Ambuehl was in charge of negotiating a solution for UBS regarding the acrimonious tax row with the US. This new position focuses on both international financial and tax matters and will help Switzerland avoid its tax haven image.

The new office will be responsible for Switzerland’s interests in the International Monetary Fund and in the Financial Stability Board, and it will “actively participate in international efforts to combat financial crime.”[/private]
