K&L Gates recruits Rainer Schmitt
K&L Gates LLP has recruited Rainer M.-L.G. Schmitt into its Frankfurt office as a partner in the firm’s tax practice. Schmitt joins K&L Gates from the Frankfurt office of Clifford Chance.
With Schmitt’s arrival, K&L Gates adds a highly sophisticated tax capability to an already impressive array of client services offered through the firm’s growing German practice. Schmitt advises German and cross-border investors such as banks, insurers, opportunity funds, and initiators on a variety of tax optimization, real estate transaction and financing matters, and European investment structurings. These include tax and insurance regulatory optimization, cross-border real estate investments, international real estate funds, portfolio transactions, restructurings, and joint ventures.
“We are pleased to expand K&L Gates’ German practice to encompass tax law, particularly with respect to the tax optimization of transactions and real estate investments, being an area of decided advantage to the firm’s clients,” commented Dr. Rüdiger von Hülst, Administrative Partner of K&L Gates’ Berlin and Frankfurt offices.
“K&L Gates has an established international tax practice that is closely linked and collaborates with teams of related legal areas,” added Schmitt. “I look forward to establishing the firm’s German tax practice in Frankfurt and the dynamics resulting thereof, as well as to the benefits of the firm’s offices across three continents for my clients.”
