Marcum LLP recruits Don Reiser as International Tax Director in NY office
Marcum LLP has announced that it is expanding its International Tax Services group as heightened scrutiny over international tax and compliance continues. As part of the expansion, Marcum will increase its focus on serving the needs of clients seeking deeper expertise in international tax planning and strategy, as well as foreign reporting and compliance. Marcum also announced that Don Reiser has joined the practice as an International Tax Director in the Firm’s New York City office.
“More companies are in need of expertise in the area of international tax planning and strategy as the scope of cross-border business continues to rapidly increase,” said Fred Corso, head of Marcum’s International Tax Services group. “Marcum is responding to those needs, whether through determination of the optimal structure for a U.S. or foreign investment; a financing transaction structure; evaluation of U.S. and foreign withholding tax planning and compliance; assistance with repatriation and foreign tax credit planning; consultation on transfer pricing issues; or assistance to foreign nationals and U.S. citizens living abroad.”
Corso continued, “With more than three decades of experience providing international tax consulting services to public and privately-held U.S. and foreign-based corporations, Don is an excellent addition to our growing International Tax Practice.”
Marcum’s International Tax Services group provides a wide array of planning, consulting and compliance services, including: tax planning and consulting; advising and planning on transfer pricing issues; outsourced international tax directors; consulting on issues related to withholding and reporting compliance; expatriate and impatriate tax services; U.S. tax compliance and preparation services; and support and representation services to taxpayers on IRS matters.
Marcum’s International Tax Services group also works closely with its partner organizations through the Leading Edge Alliance, an alliance of major independently-owned accounting and consulting firms located in over 100 countries.
Reiser has more than 30 years experience providing international tax consulting services to public and privately-held U.S. and foreign-based corporations as well as foreign individuals and businesses investing in the United States. His extensive experience includes developing and implementing tax strategies for structuring acquisitions, restructurings, and dispositions of foreign investments, including the formation and use of offshore holding companies, hybrid foreign entities, and use of income tax treaties to reduce overall tax costs. In addition, he has significant experience analyzing and implementing local country tax planning strategies and structuring international joint ventures, reorganizations, cross-border financings, and post-deal integration transactions.
“Marcum’s focus on international tax planning is an ideal fit for my background in cross-border structuring, planning and implementation,” said Reiser. “I am looking forward to joining the Marcum team.”
Reiser is also a frequent speaker on international tax topics to industry organizations. Prior to joining Marcum, he held the position of International Tax Partner at a large law firm as well as at a “Big Four” accounting firm. Earlier in his career, Reiser was a law clerk for a judge on the United States Tax Court.
Reiser earned a Master of Law degree in Taxation from New York University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Pennsylvania. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business from Boston University. He is a member of the International Fiscal Association, the American Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association.
