Brousseau joins McCarthy Tétrault
McCarthy Tétrault has announced that Wendy Brousseau has joined the firm as a partner in its Tax Group. Ms. Brousseau specializes in all aspects of commodity taxation issues, from providing advice on commercial transactions to representing clients in disputes. Ms. Brousseau will strengthen the firm’s commodity tax team by working closely with its current members, which include Brian Pel, Jim Warnock, Chia-yi Chua and Jeff Love.
Ms. Brousseau’s advice helps clients understand the commodity tax implications of new business ventures, domestic and cross-border transactions, and corporate reorganizations. She has also assisted clients with audits and verifications, and by making representations to tax authorities. She is experienced in litigating commodity tax matters before the Tax Court of Canada, Federal Court of Appeal, and the Ontario Superior Court of Justice.
“Virtually every Canadian organization deals with commodity taxes and the value can be millions of dollars a year,” said Doug Cannon, national leader of the firm’s Tax Group. “Wendy can provide the strategic commodity tax advice our clients need for their new ventures and complex deals, and when a dispute arises, she has the skills our clients need to resolve or litigate the issue.”
“I look forward to working closely with McCarthy Tétrault’s outstanding tax team,” said Ms. Brousseau. “Together, we will be able to provide clients with the sophisticated tax advice they need in commercial transactions and ensure they are getting fair tax treatment from the government.”
Ms. Brousseau is frequently invited to share her knowledge at professional conferences, her audiences having included US business people, Canadian chartered accountants and the Tax Executives Institute. She has written for various tax publications including Tax Litigation, Tax Notes International, and GST and Commodity Tax News.
