Former IRS Senior Adviser, Bob Adams, joins RSM McGladrey’s National Tax Office
RSM McGladrey, Inc. has expanded its Washington National Tax office in Washington, D.C. and recently named former IRS senior advisor Robert (Bob) Adams managing director to lead its growing IRS Practice and Procedure team.
Adams brings more than 40 years of tax and regulatory experience to RSM McGladrey’s Washington National Tax Group of highly specialized professionals whose in-depth knowledge of the issues driving current and proposed legislation helps clients stay informed on and comply with complex and changing tax laws.
In addition to making Adams’ appointment, the firm has relocated its Washington National Tax Group to 1501 M Street, NW —a move that further demonstrates the firm’s connectivity with key government agencies, serving as a gateway to policy makers relating to tax issues. Additionally, the firm’s public sector line of business will be located at the new office, and plans to significantly grow by hiring hundreds of employees over the next few years to join its existing team of seasoned, dedicated professionals.
“We are thrilled to add Bob’s knowledge and expertise to our firm at such an exciting time. Over the next few years, we plan to more than double the size of our D.C.-based teams with additional strategic hires to better serve our clients,” said C.E. Andrews, president of RSM McGladrey. “Our new office in the heart of our nation’s capital and Bob’s relationships within the IRS will, no doubt, prove invaluable for our clients as we create a ‘gateway of connectivity’ for them with policymakers influencing the tax world.”
In his role as managing director, Adams will assist clients and McGladrey personnel to navigate IRS examinations, help prepare responses to document requests and proposed adjustments and aid in appealing examination results. He will also help clients with other IRS administrative matters, including penalty abatement, interest and statute of limitations issues, pre-filing agreements, mediation and private letter rulings.
Prior to joining RSM McGladrey, Adams spent nine years with the IRS in Washington, D.C., where he served as senior advisor, large and mid-size business (LMSB), to the commissioner and deputy commissioners. Before that, he was senior industry advisor, director of heavy manufacturing & transportation. Adams holds a J.D. from Tulane University and a BSBA in accounting from the University of Southwestern Louisiana where he graduated Cum Laude. He is a frequent speaker at various tax conferences as well as domestic and international tax seminars.
