The meteoric rise of Sproul – new CEO of Deloitte
Deloitte today announced that David Sproul will become its next chief executive and Senior Partner. Sproul, who is currently Managing Director of Deloitte’s Tax practice in the UK and Europe, and a member of the firm’s Executive and Board, will succeed John Connolly on 1 June 2011.
I have copied below the press release from Deloitte. Sproul was my senior manager when I was a lowly Tax Assistant at Arthur Andersen Tax Group 2 in London. I like to think his career and mine have followed similar exponential curves. (that’s a joke by the way). Anyway, on with the formal stuff….
John Connolly, chief executive and senior partner, comments:
“I am delighted to announce that David Sproul will succeed me when I step down as Senior Partner and CEO next June. David has worked with me as one of the core Executive Leaders since the Andersen team joined Deloitte eight years ago. He has excelled in a range of leadership roles. Consistent with all Deloitte partners, David is first a client partner and he will continue the Deloitte total emphasis on our clients and our people.
“Our partners have elected David with a massive show of support and he has a clear mandate to continue building Deloitte and achieving market distinction. As we move through a short transition period all Deloitte people will be focussed on supporting our clients as they continue to face challenging markets.”
David Sproul comments:
“I am delighted to be elected by my fellow Partners to lead our firm. It is a privilege to become CEO of Deloitte and a responsibility that I take on with enormous pride. An exciting future lies ahead as we open the next chapter in shaping our business, taking a lead in responding to the Government’s growth and competitiveness agenda for the UK, and to our clients’ demands in a rapidly changing world.
“A decade of exceptional leadership from John Connolly has seen Deloitte transformed into a leading professional services firm. I look forward to building on this success, focussing on the exceptional breadth and quality of service we offer to our clients, and to making a career at Deloitte the most fulfilling and exciting experience for our exceptional Partners and people. ”
