Anne Bennett jumps ship from Deloitte to Webber Wentzel
Webber Wentzel has announced the appointment of Anne Bennett as a partner in the firm’s Johannesburg tax practice from 4 January, 2011.
Bennett joins Webber Wentzel from Deloitte & Touche South Africa, where she was the head of the International Tax Division and is a leading practitioner in the area of international tax for corporate taxpayers.
Her appointment goes some way to address the increasing demand from large corporate clients for international tax advice and services.
Bennett has extensive experience in advising South African and foreign based multinational groups on the financial and international tax implications of structuring investments and trading operations across international borders.
She was appointed as a partner of Deloitte in 1993, and was the first woman member of the Deloitte Board in 2000. She has been the partner in charge of the Deloitte International Tax Division since 1994 and in 2006 was the first South African Deloitte partner appointed to the Deloitte Western European and North American Solutions team, a global body of 15 senior tax partners tasked with developing and rolling out cross border international tax planning ideas annually.
Every year since 2004 she has been recognised as a leading tax advisor in International Tax Review’s World Tax and Legal Media Group’s Guide to the World’s Leading Tax Advisors.
Bennett holds a BA (honours) from the University of Cape Town; LLB (cum laude) from the University of South Africa; MPhil from Oxford University; and H Dip Tax from the University of the Witwatersrand. She was admitted as an attorney in 1986.
