Symetra appoints Glenn Black as VP Tax
Symetra Financial Corporation (NYSE: SYA) today announced that Glenn Black has been appointed vice president and leader of the company’s tax department.
Black joins Symetra from TIAA-CREF where he has led the corporate tax department and managed tax compliance, provisioning and planning. He previously held tax leadership roles at ING Americas, Transamerica Corporation and Unum Corporation. Black started his career as a tax accountant at Ernst & Young. A graduate of Southern Illinois University, Black is a Certified Public Accountant and Fellow of the Life Management Institute (FLMI).
In his new role, Black will be responsible for Symetra’s tax planning and analysis, GAAP and statutory tax accounting, tax reporting and compliance activities. In addition, he will advise product development teams across the company on product taxation issues. Black will report to Margaret Meister, executive vice president and chief financial officer, and he will be based in Bellevue, Wash.

He is familiar with all the tax laws pertinent to our industry, and he has been intimately involved in helping companies optimize their tax position,” said Meister. “Another asset Glenn brings to Symetra is his commitment to team and staff development.”
