Jones Day takes on new tax partner in Atlanta
Jones Day has announced that attorney Jerry N. Smith has joined as a Tax Practice partner in the Atlanta Office.
Mr. Smith, whose practice extends to international, federal, and state taxation of corporations and partnerships, previously practiced at another law firm in Atlanta and spent over 20 years with one of the largest professional services firms in the world.
“Jerry is a terrific addition to our ranks; he brings a breadth of tax experience for a variety of corporations as well as deep insight into global tax restructuring and tax controversies,” said Atlanta Office Partner-in-Charge Lizanne Thomas. “Jerry’s tax experience coordinates very nicely with the capabilities of our 150 lawyer full service office.”
Mr. Smith’s experience includes advising on federal and state tax aspects of acquisitions and divestitures, handling federal and state tax controversy matters, and restructuring corporate groups to minimize international, federal, and state taxes. He has represented clients at the IRS Examination level, protesting issues to IRS Appeals, and before the United States Tax Court. A graduate of Vanderbilt University Law School (J.D., 1985) and University of North Carolina (B.S., Accounting, 1979), Mr. Smith served as Associate Editor of the Vanderbilt Law Review.
