Nick Mogford leaves Ernst & Young to launch Tax Controversy service at GSC Solicitors
Specialist City law firm GSC Solicitors LLP has announced the appointment of Nick Mogford, who joins the firm’s Tax department to set up and lead a new Tax Controversy team.
Nick joins GSC Solicitors from the London office of Ernst & Young, where he was a director in the London tax and risk management team. Previously, he was a Senior Inspector of Taxes in the special compliance office at HM Revenue and Customs dealing with serious tax issues for large companies and high income individuals.
His appointment is the latest in a series of moves by the fast growing City firm, who in the last 12 months have developed a standalone corporate tax department with the appointment of consultant Alastair Wilson from US law firm McDermott Will & Emery and barrister Menna Bowen, also from Ernst & Young.
Commenting on the appointment, GSC Senior Partner Saleem Sheikh said: “We are delighted to welcome Nick to the firm. His breadth of experience in high profile tax investigations will provide an invaluable resource to our private and corporate clients as the tax authorities increase levels of investigation.”
Nick Mogford added: “As HMRC gears up its tax investigation teams focused on small and medium sized owner-managed businesses as well as information collection relating to offshore banks and assets, GSC will be able to offer clients a sophisticated capability in all areas of investigation and disputes with the tax authorities”.
