Former K&L Gates tax lawyer, Oliver Gutman, joins Martineau tax team
Birmingham and London law firm Martineau has strengthened its tax capability with the appointment of Oliver Gutman as a tax partner.
Ollie is an experienced tax practitioner, having previously led K&L Gates’s corporate tax practice. He has expertise across the full range of corporate tax work. He will divide his time between the firm’s London and Birmingham offices. Ollie has worked closely with many US-based corporates and much of his practice involves advising clients on cross-border transactions. He advises on both UK domestic and international tax.
Ollie will work alongside Martineau’s Corporate and Investment Funds teams as well as the firm’s award-winning Real Estate group.
Ollie said of his appointment: “Martineau’s reputation and values, its history as well as its aspirations for the future, have all made this an opportunity I have jumped at. Martineau has real quality amongst its lawyers across the board. As well as developing its tax practice, I believe I can work with all the practice groups to strengthen their offering. I hope I can also contribute to the firm’s growing reputation in London. There is a real buzz and optimism around the firm – it is a great time to be joining.”
Richard Wrigley, head of the Corporate group at Martineau is excited by this key lateral hire: “Ollie’s reputation precedes him. He is highly thought of by clients, who appreciate his ability to deliver concise, intelligible and above all client-focused advice. We’re delighted Ollie decided to join Martineau. Now is a good time to be part of the firm, as it evolves and grows; I’m confident his broad expertise will prove a useful addition to our team.”
Martineau managing partner Bill Barker added: “Ollie’s a good fit for Martineau – he is friendly and approachable and makes complex issues easy to understand. I expect great things of Ollie and our tax team in the coming months as the global economic condition continues to improve. The current acquisition opportunities in the UK for foreign businesses will ensure Ollie’s expertise in setting up acquisition vehicles for non-UK companies is much in demand, as his and our reputation grows.”
