In Conyers Dill & Pearman, Miller Thomson

Conyers Dill & Pearman has announced the continued commitment to the development of its Trust & Private Client practice with the hire of Blair L. Botsford in Bermuda.

Blair brings extensive expertise in estate planning and administration, trusts, incapacity planning and taxation. Her practice focuses on the preparation of Wills, trusts, powers of attorney, living wills, applications for grants of representation, mutual will agreements, estate and trust accounts. Blair also specialises in cross-border estate planning, as well as contentious trust and estate matters.

Blair was previously a Partner in the Waterloo office of Canadian firm Miller Thomson LLP, where she specialised in private client matters including multi-jurisdictional transactions. While at Miller Thomson, Blair also acted as outside counsel to Canadian Bank CIBC, where she coordinated a variety of contentious trust and estate matters.

Alec Anderson, Global Head of Trust & Private Client, commented: “I am delighted to welcome Blair to the Conyers Trust & Private Client team. She brings a wealth of legal experience and is a valuable addition to our practice as we continue to reinforce our position as a leading private client practice.”

Commenting on her move to Conyers, Blair said: “Conyers has a long-established reputation as a leader in offshore trust and private client law, with a broad practice encompassing all aspects of contentious and non-contentious work. I look forward to playing my part in the team and seeking to add value to Conyers’ client focussed services.”

Blair is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and STEP. She holds an MA in Economics from McMaster University, an LLB from University of Western Ontario and a BA in Honours Economics from University of Waterloo.

Conyers’ Bermuda Trust & Private Client practice has maintained its dedication to its investment in the country’s status as a leading trusts jurisdiction. The team has recently played a leading role in legal developments regarding the scope of the Bermuda Court’s jurisdiction of the court under S.47 of the Trustee Act 1975, which has led to the discovery of new estate planning opportunities for multi-jurisdictional families.

Blair’s hire follows a successful year for Conyers’ Global Trust & Private Client practice, which launched a BVI practice in 2010 and which continues to grow its Cayman private client practice. The firm’s lawyers continue to deliver bespoke legal structures and solutions, and responsive advice and fiduciary services to wealthy clients and their legal advisors.
