Thomas Barber joins WeiserMazars from LECG’s Insurance Tax Group
WeiserMazars LLP has announced that Thomas Barber has joined the firm as a partner in its Financial Services Group. Mr. Barber, who will be based in the firm’s Horsham, Pennsylvania office, has 27 years of experience dealing with the taxation of property and casualty, life, health, mortgage, financial guaranty and captive and insurance companies.
With the addition of Mr. Barber, WeiserMazars’ Financial Services Group, already highly regarded for its insurance audit and consulting services, will be able to expand the suite of services offered to clients operating in the insurance space.
“The Mid-Atlantic region continues to be a strong growth market for WeiserMazars and Tom’s addition will greatly benefit us, particularly as we seek business from the large population of top tier property and casualty insurance companies located in this region,” said Douglas A. Phillips, WeiserMazars’ managing partner.
Prior to joining WeiserMazars, Mr. Barber served in a variety of capacities including an executive director at Ernst & Young’s Financial Services Office in Philadelphia, a managing director at LECG-SMART’s Insurance Tax Services group, a senior tax manager with Deloitte Tax LLP’s National Insurance Tax Practice, and as an assistant vice president of tax at Reliance Insurance Company. A licensed CPA in Pennsylvania, Mr. Barber holds a BBA in Accounting from Temple University.
Mr. Barber’s tax consulting background includes numerous projects for public and non-public enterprises involving ASC 740 (formerly FAS 109, including FIN 48) and SSAP No. 10R.
“WeiserMazars’ existing Insurance Practice is a tremendous platform on which to build a service line in insurance tax services,” said Mr. Barber. “Market volatility has sharply increased the challenges faced by these companies, both in managing their business and in their tax exposure, and we are well positioned to help them meet these shifting demands.”
