McDermott Will & Emery hires Martin Milner as a partner in the US & International Tax Group in Washington
International law firm McDermott Will & Emery today announced that it has named Martin Milner as a partner in its U.S. and International Tax Practice Group, based in the Firm’s Washington, D.C. office.
Mr. Milner, who joins from Mayer Brown, will focus his practice on the U.S. federal tax aspects of mergers, acquisitions, dispositions and restructuring transactions. He has significant experience representing corporate clients with regard to structuring and implementing tax-free transactions, addressing consolidated return issues, and managing net operating losses and other tax attributes. Additionally, he also advises clients on foreign tax credit matters and subpart F issues.
“We are delighted to welcome Martin to the Firm’s continuously growing and evolving tax practice,” said Lowell D. Yoder, partner and head of McDermott’s U.S. and International Tax practice group. “He is a gifted tax lawyer with strong international and transactional experience across an array of tax issues impacting today’s multinational companies. By growing our bench of young, talented lawyers, McDermott seeks to provide best-in-class tax counsel to our clients now and into the future.”
Mr. Milner’s skills and background complement McDermott’s current Washington-based tax team and provide increased support to other practice groups in the Firm’s second largest office.
“Martin is a much-welcomed addition to our Washington office,” said Bobby Burchfield, co-partner-in-charge of McDermott’s Washington, D.C. office. “Part of our success in Washington has been our ability to attract the next wave of top local talent across multiple disciplines and practice areas. We believe Martin will be a true asset for the office as we continue to execute our strategic growth plan for 2012.”
Mr. Milner is currently the Chair of the Federal Bar Association Section on Taxation, and is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, Louisiana, Mississippi and Georgia. He has previously worked for the accounting firm Pricewaterhouse Coopers in the mergers and acquisitions group of the Washington national tax office.
