Tim Tuerff to lead Deloitte’s Washington National Tax Practice
Deloitte, the largest professional services organization in the United States, has selected Tim Tuerff to lead Deloitte’s Washington National Tax (WNT) practice. Tuerff most recently served as Washington International Tax Partner-in-Charge, Deloitte Tax LLP.
In his new role, Tuerff will coordinate Deloitte’s Washington National Tax practice, which supports Deloitte’s tax practice by addressing the transactional needs of clients and interpreting the impact of legislative and administrative tax developments. Tuerff succeeds Dean Stumvoll, who is stepping down from his role at the end of Deloitte’s fiscal year which concludes May 31, 2012.
“Tim is an excellent choice to build on Deloitte’s market leadership in our Washington National Tax practice,” said Carl S. Allegretti, chairman and chief executive officer of Deloitte Tax LLP. “He brings tremendous experience and knowledge to the role and a stellar reputation in the tax community. He serves his clients with distinction and brings a deep understanding of the U.S. regulatory and legislative processes.”
Tuerff joined Deloitte Tax LLP in 2002 as a partner. Prior to that, he practiced in Washington D.C. specializing in international tax and serving as Special Assistant to the Chief Counsel of the Internal Revenue Service. Tuerff recently testified before the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Select Revenue Measures regarding Chairman Camp’s proposal for a territorial system of taxation.
“The Washington National Tax practice is a critical differentiator for Deloitte,” said Tuerff. “Working with my partners and our excellent team at WNT, I look forward to building on Dean’s success in representing the interests of our clients and helping to shape the debate in Washington, D.C.”
Tuerff is a frequent contributor to tax periodicals, including Tax Notes and Tax Notes International; LLCs, Joint Ventures & Other Strategic Alliances; the American Bar Association’s International Franchising Journal; and the Practicing Law Institute’s journal, Tax Planning for Domestic & Foreign Partnerships.
Tuerff is a graduate of Indiana University School of Law and School of Business.
