Sutherland hires Allen and Rizzolo into the insurance tax practice in Washington
Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP announced today the continued expansion of the firm’s insurance tax practice with the addition of Dennis L. Allen and M. Kristan Rizzolo as partners in Washington, D.C. Both were previously partners at Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP.
“We are thrilled to have Dennis and Kristan join us and to continue adding some of the insurance industry’s leading legal advisers to our team,” said Sutherland Managing Partner Mark D. Wasserman. “Our recent additions to the insurance tax practice, which also include Jeff Mace, Linda Sciuto and Bruce Wright who joined us in March, give us consummate depth and breadth across the spectrum of property casualty, life and captive insurance tax.”
Mr. Allen is a highly regarded insurance tax practitioner who began his legal career at Sutherland in 1980. At Sutherland and then at Dewey & LeBoeuf, Mr. Allen built a strong practice advising insurance companies, insurance intermediaries and large commercial insureds on a wide variety of tax and insurance law matters. His experience includes insurance company mergers and acquisitions (both domestic and international), mutual insurance company restructurings, insurance and reinsurance product work, and tax controversy matters.
Ms. Rizzolo is also a leading adviser to insurance companies on a wide variety of federal tax and insurance law matters. With experience in both domestic and international tax planning, she regularly counsels clients in connection with insurance company mergers and acquisitions, including cross-border transactions, and offshore insurance arrangements. Ms. Rizzolo also regularly represents clients in tax controversy matters and on the development of insurance and reinsurance products.
Since the end of March, Sutherland has significantly expanded its industry-leading insurance and tax practices with some of the country’s preeminent advisers on insurance regulation, litigation, tax and transactions from Dewey & LeBoeuf. The group includes Partners Ellen M. Dunn, James R. Dwyer, Jeffrey H. Mace, John S. Pruitt, Linda A. Sciuto, Cynthia R. Shoss and P. Bruce Wright, Counsel Linda P. Berry and Saren Goldner, and Associates Justin K. Kitchens, Daren L. Moreira and Joshua P. Borden, who joined Sutherland in New York.
