Jon Traub succeeds Clint Stretch at Deloitte’s Washington National Tax Practice
Deloitte, the largest professional services organization in the United States, today announced Jonathan Traub, former staff director for the Committee on Ways and Means of the U.S. House of Representatives, has joined its Washington National Tax practice.
Traub succeeds Clint Stretch, who is retiring. In his new role, Traub, a principal, leads a team which identifies, evaluates and monitors legislative proposals, and interprets the practical issues surrounding the application of tax proposals on behalf of Deloitte’s clients.
Traub enjoyed an extensive career as a senior staff member in the U.S. House of Representatives. Since 2008, Traub served as the Republican staff director for the Committee on Ways and Means and was responsible for developing legislative policies and strategy on issues in the Committee’s jurisdiction, including taxes, healthcare and trade. He played a key role in the Tax Relief Act of 2010 and the Budget Control Act (debt limit increase, 2011). He was also deeply involved in the work of the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, better known as the Super Committee.
“With tax reform emerging as a consistent theme during this election year, tax policy has become one of the most critical issues on the minds of our clients,” said Carl Allegretti, chairman and chief executive officer, Deloitte Tax LLP. “Jon’s knowledge and experience on Capitol Hill will better position them to anticipate the impact that proposed legislation may have on their businesses. His addition to our team further strengthens Deloitte’s position as the nation’s leading tax practice.”
“I’m thrilled to join Deloitte Tax, and I look forward to sharing my experience with clients during a critical time for tax policy,” said Traub. “Today’s U.S. legislative system is extremely complex. I’m pleased that I can put my experience to work on behalf of our clients, helping them stay abreast of developments in the tax policy debate and understand where those debates may lead and how it will affect their businesses.”
Prior to the U.S. House of Representatives, Traub served as the vice president for tax legislation at the Securities Industry Association where he successfully championed reduced rates of tax on capital gains and dividends, as well as other important federal tax issues.
Traub was raised in Minneapolis, Minn. He received his bachelor’s degree from Haverford College and juris doctor from the University of Virginia. He lives in Alexandria, Va. with his wife, Jean.
