Robin L. Greenhouse Named Fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel
Robin L. Greenhouse, a tax partner in McDermott Will & Emery’s Washington D.C. office, has been selected as a Fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel (ACTC).
The American College of Tax Counsel was created to foster and recognize the excellence of its members and to elevate standards in the practice of the profession of tax law. It works to facilitate scholarly discussions and examination of tax policy issues and to provide additional mechanisms for input by tax professionals in development of tax laws and policy. Fellows in the College are a select group of tax attorneys who have practiced for at least 10 years and have dedicated their careers to the tax field. Nominees are required to have provided exceptionally high-quality professional services to clients, the bar and the public.
“We are very proud of Robin,” said Lowell S. Yoder, partner and head of McDermott’s U.S. and International Tax Practice Group. “Selection as a Fellow in the ACTC is a high honor for those who have demonstrated clear, substantive contributions to the field of tax law. Robin’s appointment is exceptionally well deserved and we are confident that she will be very active in the ACTC and its important work, particularly in the area of tax administration.”
In addition to at least 10 years of practiced devoted to tax and related matters, ACTC requires that its fellows “have demonstrated an exceptional degree of professional commitment to the practice of law through active involvement in the work of the Tax Section of the American Bar Association, by planning or speaking in tax seminars and programs, through holding office in tax committees or sections of regional state or local bar associations, through significant legal writing or teaching in the field of taxation or by holding a responsible tax administration position with the federal government.”
Ms. Greenhouse has substantial experience representing clients in resolving complex federal tax controversies with the IRS at audit or appeals, and in tax litigation. Over her 28-year career as a government and private litigator, she has handled more than a 100 cases in the U.S. Tax Court, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims and the U.S. District Courts, and Court of Appeals. Robin is a recognized authority on the attorney-client, work product and tax practitioner privileges, and speaks frequently on matters relating to tax litigation and administrative practice. She is active in the American Bar Association Section of Taxation, is chair of the Committee on Appointments to the Tax Court and is a past chair of the Court Procedure and Practice Committee. She was listed in the 2011 edition of Best Lawyers in America and the 2009-2011 editions of the Legal 500.
