5 Ways To Get A Tax Degree

 In Articles

Having a degree in anything tax-related is a pretty wise move career wise. Think about it; everyone needs to do their taxes. And not only that, but the vast majority of people don’t know the finer points of taxes and certainly haven’t the time to learn them either. They are too busy with their own career, life, raising a family and so on. That leaves the question; what routes can you take to earn a tax degree. Well, we are here to discuss five of them.

First up quite obviously are colleges and universities. In the US the University of Texas in Austin is generally regarded as the cream of the crop when it comes to accountancy type degrees. Be advised though, it is pretty pricey. Next is University of Michigan in Ann Arbor followed up by the University of Illinois in Champaign.

And speaking of universities and colleges, one not so publicized type of accounting degree is that of forensic accounting. This is where one learns how to trace criminal activities, tax cheating and other nefarious activities committed by both individuals and companies alike. If this sounds interesting to you, ask prospective schools if they offer up this course.

Don’t overlook specialty educational courses concerning accountancy and taxes as well. Of course you want to make sure you’re dealing with a reputable school. They should be able to provide you with references of satisfied (and hopefully successful) students who have taken their courses. And you should also do your due diligence and talk to the respective agencies and find out if there have been complaints about them.

Believe it or not; don’t overlook community or junior colleges in your quest for an accountancy degree. With the high cost of a university education, sometimes this is the only choice. Often, you can get an associate’s degree from these places and get an entry level tax or accountancy job to keep you afloat while you pursue more advanced degrees.

And you know we were not going to finish without mentioning online options for your tax/accountancy degree. Years back these used to be scoffed at as diploma mills. Not anymore. Even the big universities and colleges renowned for their expertise in providing these types of courses now have an online presence.

There you have it, five great ways in which you can acquire a degree in accountancy or other tax-related fields.
