Corwin returns to KPMG US as Head of International Corporate Services

 In KPMG, Treasury Department

Manal Corwin has returned to KPMG LLP, the U.S. audit, tax and advisory firm, to assume key positions within the firm’s international taxation group, following completion of her tenure as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Tax Policy for International Tax Affairs at the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Corwin will serve both as the national service line leader for International Corporate Services and in the newly created role of principal-in-charge, Washington National Tax-International Tax Policy.
“During her recent tenure at Treasury, Manal exhibited extraordinary leadership skills and gained the respect of U.S. and foreign tax policy officials and tax professionals for her ability to balance competing interests, build coalitions, identify strategic solutions, and achieve results,” said Jeffrey C. LeSage, vice chair of KPMG’s U.S. Tax practice. “We are extremely pleased to once again count her among our outstanding team of tax partners and professionals.”

Prior to serving in the U.S. Treasury Department (first as the International Tax Counsel in the Office of Tax Policy and then as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Tax Affairs), Corwin was a principal in Washington National Tax at KPMG from 2001 to 2009 where she advised multinational corporations on international tax aspects of their operations and transactions in the United States and represented clients in tax controversies before the Internal Revenue Service.

Earlier in her career, from 1992 to 1999, Corwin practiced as an attorney at the law firm of Covington & Burling in Washington, D.C., and served as a judicial clerk for then Chief Judge Levin Campbell on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.

“It is a privilege to re-join KPMG’s international tax team and once again work alongside some of the finest tax professionals in the country,” said Corwin. “During the next few years we could see significant changes in international tax policy and practice. The knowledge and experience of KPMG’s corporate international tax professionals and the firm’s reputation for excellence in the U.S. and globally will enable the firm to guide clients through the changing landscape while placing it in an ideal position to be an important contributor to the tax policy conversation. I look forward to leading KPMG’s International Corporate Service’s practice during this exciting time.”

Corwin is a member of the Massachusetts and the District of Columbia bar associations. She is a 1991 graduate of the Boston University School of Law, where she was editor-in-chief of the Law Review. She earned her undergraduate degree from Harvard University in 1986.
