Former Global Head of Tax at EY, Mark Weinberger, becomes Global Chairman and CEO
Ernst & Young (EY) announced today that Mark Weinberger has become Global Chairman and CEO. The professional services organisation also announced the adoption of EY as its global brand name, unveiled a new logo and adopted Building a better working world as its purpose.
Most recently, Weinberger served as the organization’s Global Vice Chair of Tax, overseeing EY’s global Tax practice. Weinberger began his career with EY in 1987 as an entry-level staff member in the firm’s national tax department. After several years with the firm, he turned his attention to the public sector, accepting a position as the Chief Tax and Budget Counsel for Senator John C. Danforth (R-Missouri).
He was subsequently appointed Chief of Staff of US President Bill Clinton’s Bipartisan Commission on Entitlement and Tax Reform in 1994. Under President Clinton, Weinberger also served on the U.S. Social Security Advisory Board. In these roles, he cultivated a deeper interest in large budget issues, taxes and entitlements, developing a reputation as one of the country’s leading authorities on tax policy.
In 1996, Weinberger co-founded Washington Counsel, P.C., a Washington DC-based law and legislative advisory firm, which merged into EY and now operates as Washington Council EY. Subsequently Weinberger became the head of EY’s US National Tax Practice.
Mark Weinberger returned to public service in 2001 when he was appointed by President George W. Bush as Assistant Secretary (Tax Policy) of the U.S. Treasury.
Mark says, “It is a privilege to lead this great organisation in these dynamic times and I’m looking forward to tackling the challenges ahead. EY has a proud history that stretches back more than a century. Over that time we have forged our reputation based on quality, trust and integrity. We are building on our history and our reputation to create our future.”
