Banking Tax Guru Siamak Mostafavi moves from A&O to Jones Day
Jones Day has announced that partner Siamak Mostafavi and associate Nicolas André will join the Tax Practice in the Firm’s Paris Office. Mr. Mostafavi will join on October 1, Mr. André on October 11. They both join from Allen & Overy’s Paris office, where Mr. Mostafavi founded the tax team in 1999.
Mr. Mostafavi focuses his practice on advising financial institutions on the tax aspects of financial and derivatives products, an area in which he is recognized as one of the leading lawyers in France. He will be a significant part of Jones Day’s Tax and Banking & Finance practices, both in Paris and globally. His experience in the structuring and taxation of derivatives will complement that of the derivatives and market infrastructure team led byAlban Caillemer du Ferrage, the Banking & Finance team led by Frédéric Gros, and the Fund Formation team led by Florence Moulin and Daniel Schmidt.
Mr. Mostafavi will play a senior role in the Paris Tax practice along with partner Emmanuel de La Rochethulon, who has a highly respected taxation practice focused on M&A, complex restructurings, and real estate.

The international guides Chambers Global and Chambers Europe (Band 1), and Legal 500 EMEA rank him each year as a leading individual in the taxation of financial products and derivatives in France. He regularly authors articles and speaks on financial taxation issues. He is a member of the French branch of the International Fiscal Association, and was the French co-rapporteur on the topic “The debt-equity conundrum” during the Boston Congress (2012).
Mr. Mostafavi is a graduate of HEC, ISA (1983) and a member of the Paris Bar since 1992.
Mr. André practiced for more than three years in Allen & Overy’s Paris and New York offices. His practice covers all aspects of French and international taxation relating to M&A, real estate investments, and structured financial products. Mr. André regularly advises French and international companies, investment funds, and individuals regarding general taxation issues. He also assists clients in connection with tax audits and disputes. Mr. André holds a Master’s degree in business law from Paris II Panthéon-Assas, a Master’s degree in corporate taxation from Paris-Dauphine University, an LL.M. in international taxation from the New York University School of Law, and was a research assistant at the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He is admitted to the Paris and New York bars.
