King & Wood Mallesons hires Tax Partner Michael Perez into Melbourne office
King & Wood Mallesons has strengthened the ranks of its Tax team with the lateral partner appointment of renowned tax expert Michael Perez.
Michael will join the firm’s Melbourne office in January from Allens where he established a successful practice advising a range of high profile clients such as Rio Tinto, Tabcorp, BHP Billiton, Ford and Shell on a broad spectrum of matters including reorganisations, demergers, financing arrangements, mergers and acquisitions.
Michael’s expertise in stamp duty, GST and income tax, together with his strong track record in managing complex tax audits and tax litigation will complement the firm’s market leading Tax team, which is ranked Tier 1 in the 2013 Chambers Asia Pacific Directory, and further enhances the powerful offering for clients requiring first class tax advice.
He is the third partner appointment to the Tax practice this year and his decision to join the firm highlights KWM’s continued ability to attract first class talent.
Justin Cherrington, Head of Tax said: “We are thrilled to welcome Michael to the practice. We are continuing to build on the best Tax group in Australia and the addition of someone of Michael’s calibre underscores our ability to connect our clients with the best people and the best opportunities in the market.”
Michael is consistently ranked as one of the top performing Tax Practitioners in Australia by both Chambers Global (2006-2012) and Best Lawyers (2008-2012).
