Barbara Spudis de Marigny joins McGuireWoods LLP as a tax partner in Houston
McGuireWoods LLP today announced that Barbara Spudis de Marigny has joined the firm’s tax practice as a partner in Houston. De Marigny brings more than 30 years of experience advising businesses on taxation of their operations, mergers and acquisitions, partnerships and joint ventures. She has extensive experience representing clients in the energy industry, including vertically-integrated majors, MLPs, and private equity investors in companies operating midstream, upstream or in the oilfield services sector.
“Barbara’s experience and understanding of tax matters relating to partnerships and MLPs will add great value to the work we are already doing for our MLP clients, as well as provide the tax support essential to our alternative energy clients that are often financed with tax equity,” said Tom Farrell, managing partner of the firm’s Houston office.
“Barbara is a very well-known tax lawyer who chaired the first ABA Committee on LLC Taxation. Her experience in structuring partnerships and LLCs will be very beneficial for our energy industry clients and will complement our existing tax practice,” added Craig Bell, chairman of McGuireWoods’ tax practice. “We are delighted to welcome her to the team.”
Prior to joining McGuireWoods, de Marigny was a managing director with the mergers and acquisitions tax practice at KPMG LLP in Houston. She earned her LL.M. in taxation from IIT Chicago – Kent School of Law in 1986 and her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1981. She is admitted to practice law in Texas, California and Illinois, as well as before the U.S. Tax Court.
McGuireWoods’ tax and employee benefits practice includes lawyers from many of the firm’s U.S. and international offices who cover the full spectrum of federal, state, and local taxes for clients ranging from closely held entities to Fortune 500 companies.
