Tax Lawyer Mike Valdes joins WTAS in New York from Brazilian Law Firm Koury Lopes Advogados
WTAS has announced the addition of Mike Valdes as a Managing Director in New York.
Valdes is an internationally recognized specialist in U.S. and international tax planning, particularly with respect to Latin American and Caribbean tax matters, and has over 35 years of experience. Valdes has deep expertise in the areas of corporate taxation and private clients with cross-border issues.
“Mike’s expertise and background will add enormous value to both the New York office and the firm as a whole as we continue to expand our international tax practice in Latin America,” said Joe Toce, the firm’s Office Managing Director for the New York office.
Prior to joining WTAS, Valdes was most recently with Brazilian law firm Koury Lopes Advogados. Valdes also served as a U.S. resident partner for Machado Asociados Advogados e Consultores from 2003 to 2012. In addition, he was a partner at Ernst & Young between 1994 and 2002 where he headed their Latin American Business Center.

Valdes received his Master of Science degree in taxation and Juris Doctor degree from DePaul University and DePaul University Law School, respectively. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, the American Bar Association, and the Florida Bar Association. Valdes is also on the Advisory Board of the Latin American Law & Business Report, which is published by Thomson Reuters.
