Montgomery McCracken hires new tax partner

Montgomery McCracken has announced that Jonathan R. Flora has joined the Tax practice group within the firm’s Business Department in Philadelphia.

Flora was previously chair of the Tax practice at Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis LLP.

Flora will focus his practice on advising clients on federal, state and local tax issues. He has represented clients on tax planning and structuring for a broad range of transactions, such as joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, reorganizations, redemptions, liquidations, securitizations, issuance of securities, licensing, workouts and tax-free exchanges. Flora routinely advises pass-through entities on operating, allocation and distribution issues, and he provides tax advice and counsel to tax-exempt and nonprofit entities. He is a member of the editorial board of M&A Tax Report. Additionally, he is a member of the Business and Tax Sections of the American Bar Association and is a member of the Tax Section of the Philadelphia Bar Association.

Flora received his LL.M. (Tax) from New York University and received his M.A. from the University of California, Davis. He graduated from the University of Maryland School of Law, order of the coif, with a J.D. and from Towson University, summa cum laude, with a B.S. degree.

Montgomery McCracken’s Tax practice group counsels clients regarding all areas of federal, state, local and international taxation, including acquisitions and dispositions; restructuring of entities and groups of related entities; ongoing operations; advocacy; tax-exempt-organizations; and individual tax matters. The attorneys in the Tax practice group share a strong foundation of technical tax knowledge and a broad understanding of current business practices and are able to help clients achieve their business and personal goals and objectives at the least possible tax cost consistent with the applicable law.
