Abhishek Shah joins Caterpillar (from EY) as Asia Pacific VAT/GST Lead

Abhishek Shah has joined the global tax team at Caterpillar, as VAT/GST Lead for the Asia Pacific region.

He has relocated back to Singapore, where he had earlier worked for the Accenture Global Tax Team, to join the Tax & Trade team of Caterpillar, taking over the role of Asia Pacific VAT/GST lead.

Abhishek joins at a time when the region is witnessing fundamental indirect tax changes at the moment:  Malaysia will introduce GST next year and China is gradually replacing a Business Tax regime with a Value Added Tax. India is likely to follow soon with the new progressive government taking charge.

Caterpillar has been growing rapidly in the region and having experienced resources in-house suits the organisation tax strategy. Abhishek will report into Colin Ager, who is the global head of indirect taxes and a veteran at Caterpillar. Abhishek’s role will supplement the business initiatives of the company from a tax risk perspective and put in place control mechanisms to ensure that the tax compliance is managed well.
