Former Senior Manager at KPMG gets partnership with McDermott Will & Emery in Chicago
Thomas H. Young has joined McDermott Will & Emery as a partner in its U.S. and International Tax Practice Group, resident in the Chicago office.
Mr. Young was previously a senior manager of international tax at KPMG LLP, where he specialized in complex corporate transactions. He has also practised tax law at another international law firm. His experience with outbound consulting includes advising U.S. public multinationals and private equity portfolio companies on a broad range of international tax matters, such as structuring foreign acquisitions, internal restructurings, out-from-under planning, and check-the-box loss planning. Other outbound topics Mr. Young focuses on include repatriation, cross-border financing, foreign tax credit utilization, IP planning, supply chain planning, and various Subpart F and PFIC matters, as well as general corporate tax matters.
Mr. Young has also advised a wide variety of clients, from public and private enterprises to sovereign funds, on a range of inbound U.S. tax matters, such as structuring U.S. acquisitions and dispositions, cross-border financing, qualification for treaty benefits, the foreign government exemption, internal restructurings, investing in private equity and hedge funds, FIRPTA, IP planning, and permanent establishment issues.
Mr. Young is also experienced in the areas of private equity, mergers and acquisitions, IRS rulings, securities and finance, and corporate restructuring and bankruptcy.
