Experienced Tax Partner, Tom Geraghty, chooses DLA Piper over Kirkland & Ellis
DLA Piper has announced that Tom Geraghty has joined the firm’s Tax practice as partner in the Chicago office.
Geraghty focuses his practice on domestic and international corporate tax law. He has experience advising fund sponsors, investment advisors, and investors who seek to identify and implement tax-efficient structures worldwide in order to enhance after-tax yields.
Geraghty also counsels clients on investments for US and non-US investors across asset classes, including real estate, infrastructure, and debt and equities. He provides tax representation to US and non-US issuers and underwriters of debt and equity instruments, including variable and fixed-rate notes, collateralized debt obligations, and other capital market transactions. In addition, Geraghty counsels clients on the tax aspects of credit facilities and other loans made by domestic and foreign lenders, as well as many aspects of restructuring transactions. He also works on mergers and acquisitions, including developing, documenting, and negotiating acquisition and financing structures for both corporations and investment funds.
”Tom is a highly regarded lawyer who will provide immediate and valuable contributions to our Tax practice in the Chicago market, which in turn will help bolster our national transactional practice,” said David Colker, global co-chair and US chair of DLA Piper’s Tax practice.
Geraghty’s background in international tax matters will further strengthen the firm’s ability to serve international clients that reside in the Chicago and Midwest marketplace. ”We are pleased he has joined us in Chicago as we continue to build out our corporate and tax capabilities,” said David Mendelsohn, managing partner of DLA Piper’s Chicago office.
Geraghty joins the firm from Kirkland & Ellis where he served as a partner in the Tax Group in the Chicago office. He received his J.D. from Yale Law School, and his B.A., summa cum laude, from St. John’s University.
