He joins from Lion Capital, a consumer focused private equity fund, where he was chief operating officer and a long-standing member of the British Venture Capital Association tax committee. Before joining Lion he was Grant Thornton’s UK transaction tax leader.
Bill MacLeod, senior partner at PwC in Newcastle, said:
“Paul’s appointment reflects our strategy of building the right team of specialists so that we can support out client’s growth ambitions. His experience of working in-house at Lion Capital and his specialism in M&A tax will benefit our clients and shows our commitment to recruit and retain the best talent. And it is testament to the strength of our practice and region, that we are able to attract industry leaders to the North East.”
Paul Cooper added: “It is great to be back in the North East. Market confidence continues to improve in the region, which is reflected in the number of deals completed, such as the sale of SMD and the IPO of SCS. Newcastle is a great marketplace and I look forward to working with Peter, Lee and the team, to support our clients and expand our client base.”
